Second Ward Neighborhood Plan

LandDesign's vision for Charlotte’s Second Ward district transformed a stark, largely institutional area into a livable urban neighborhood reminiscent of Brooklyn, the self-sufficient African-American community that existed here 50 years ago. Drawing on extensive community input, LandDesign developed a plan incorporating diverse architecture and housing types, distinctive infrastructure and open spaces, while acknowledging and addressing the social complexities of this area whose past includes urban renewal that radically altered it. The resulting plan was embraced and implemented by the development community.
