Joining LandDesign in 2003, Theron Pickens is a Principal and Senior Engineering Manager. Based in Charlotte, his involvement in projects includes conceptual planning and design, contract development and administration, layout, design, and agency coordination to preparation of final construction documents and construction administration. He also shares the responsibility of leading LandDesign through a company-wide Green initiatives program that emphasizes sustainable design practices and ecologically responsible options into every project.
With over 25 years experience, Mr. Pickens is a LEED-accredited professional with significant experience incorporating sustainable design practices and building business relationships within the industry that allow the introduction and use of current best environmental practices. He works to improve the experience of life through careful analysis, planning, design, management, preservation, and rehabilitation of the land on which we live.
Mr. Pickens' roadway design experience in both rural and urban design includes corridor studies, horizontal and vertical control design and evaluations, storm drainage system design, and sediment and erosion control. His roadway improvement solutions are uniquely applicable to the specific design criteria, practical in implementation, and sensitive to the environment and safety of the public. Among his notable projects is the Lowe's Corporate Campus, which included site evaluations, entitlements, master planning, engineering, and pursuit of LEED Silver certification.
Mr. Pickens earned an Associate of Science in Civil Engineering Technology from York Technical College and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Clemson University and is a registered professional engineer in North Carolina and South Carolina. He is also a member of several professional organizations, including the Society of American Military Engineers, American Society of Civil Engineers, National Society of Professional Engineers, and U.S. Green Building Council (NC & SC chapters).
