Joining LandDesign in 1988, Dale Stewart is President, Partner, and Civil/Environmental Engineer. Based in Charlotte, Mr. Stewart is lead consultant on a wide variety of master-planned communities requiring innovative solutions to storm water management and sanitary sewer service. He has been a practicing civil/environmental engineer since 1972.

Mr. Stewart possesses a comprehensive understanding not only of the opportunities and challenges of today’s engineering projects, but of the role those projects play in the development of the larger region. He is a proponent of beneficial wastewater recycle and reuse and has put this approach into practice on several projects. Under his leadership, the design team for the Overlook development on Mountain Island Lake received the watershed protection Blue Thumb Award. Under his leadership, LandDesign has also been working with Lowe’s for the past eight years on its corporate campus, including site evaluations, entitlements, master planning, engineering, and pursuit of LEED Silver certification.

Mr. Stewart’s expertise has made him a valuable member of a number of committees and task forces. He is active in a number of land preservation efforts. Appointed by the Mecklenburg County Commission, he has served on the stakeholders committees for both Mountain Island and Lake Wylie Watershed Protection and as past chairman of the Advisory Commission for the Charlotte Mecklenburg Utility Department. He also served on the Stormwater Advisory Task Force as an appointee of the Charlotte City Council and was instrumental in the creation of the City’s Stormwater Utility and the Stormwater Advisory Commission. He also served on the County Commission’s special Surface Water Improvement and Management committee, which resulted in the adoption of a new uniform stream buffer protection program for Mecklenburg County.

Mr. Stewart earned a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in civil engineering from North Carolina State University and is a registered professional engineer in North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Georgia. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the Society of American Military Engineers, American Society of Civil Engineers, and National Society of Professional Engineers.
